Track Types are a Live365-internal way to organize the tracks in your library. There are 5 track Types available to choose from. Track Types are pre-defined by Live365 and are important for implementing basic AutoDJ track mix.
What are Track Types?
Types are a Live365-internal way of labeling Tracks in your Library. Track Types are different from Categories (formerly called Tags). Categories (Tags) are user-defined, whereas track Types are static, defined by Live365. A track can have multiple Categories (Tags) but it can only have one track Type. There are currently 6 different categories of track Type: Music, Talk, ID, Promo, Uncategorized, and Ad:
Music - Used for copyrighted content, including music.
Talk - Used for live recordings and spoken word content like podcasts, sermons, interviews, storytelling.
ID - Used for tracks that help your listeners identify which station they are listening to. IDs are also sometimes referred to as jingles or sweepers.
Promo - Best used for promotional tracks and tracks only to be aired for a limited time such as concert announcement, sponsor mentions, seasonal tracks, etc.
Uncategorized - This is the default track Type. If you don’t add one of the categories above, all of the tracks that you upload will be uncategorized.
Ad - You cannot label anything as an Ad, but you might see this track Type in the search feature. Ads are controlled by Live365.
Why do you need track Types?
Track Types are mainly used in selecting tracks that play while you are in AutoDJ mode. You will find the AutoDJ settings pictured below by selecting Settings > AutoDJ > Track Mix.
Selecting track Types for the Track Mix will enable all of the tracks of that Type for AutoDJ. If you want to exclude certain tracks from your AutoDJ mix, we suggest that you categorize the tracks that you uncategorize the tracks that you want to omit, and then remove the uncategorized track Type from the AutoDJ track mix.
Once tracks are categorized as stationIDs, you can also specify how many stationIDs you want to air per hour in the AutoDJ settings.
You can add Types while uploading tracks to your Library!
Upload tracks by selecting Media > Upload Tracks. For best results, upload similar tracks in each batch because you can only select one Type for all the tracks in each batch.
Once the tracks are uploaded, click on the orange "Categorize these tracks” button. This will open a new window from which you can add track Types.
From the Track Type drop-down menu, select a Track Type. (In this step, you can also add track Categories (Tags). This will add the Type to all of the tracks currently in the upload pane. Read more about Categories here.
How do I bulk-adjust track Types?
If you didn’t add the track Types as you uploaded them, it’s not too late! You can add or change track Types at any time from the Tracks section of the Media tab.
Use the checkboxes in the left column to select tracks. You can select multiple tracks at once. One you have selected tracks, use the “Set media type as” drop down menu at the top of the pane to add a track Type. The column on the far right will show the updated Track type. If there is no entry in the far right column, the track is currently uncategorized.
